How many marriages are successful?

This gives a relativity between the population, number of marriages and the divorce rates. This is just a depiction to show how many marriages are successful. It is interesting to note that the rates are not very encouraging with some of the states showing more than 83% failure rates based on the number of marriages and divorces in a year.

The highest failure rate is in Maine and the lowest rates are in North Dakota. We would like to predict how this numbers would look like in 10 years from now.

Smoking Trends in the U.S. (1965-2007) Team I

In recent times it has been found tat smoking rates has deceased dramatically. In an article published in The New York Times, it was stated especially that current smokers are choosing to smoke less per day, and taking it one step further and becoming former smokers. This is due to the increase in price on tobacco, increased awareness of the hazards of smoking, and an increase in smoking bans in bars, restaurants, and other public spaces around the country.

Article referenced above found here:

Annual Birthrate of each country

The birth rate (technically, births/population rate) is the total number of live births per 1,000 of a population in a year. And we collect five years data, which is from 2008 to 2013, from United Nations. There are several missing values. The region without any colors are missing value. countries with darker red have higher birth rate. As we all know that China and India are top 2 population among the world. Therefore, this data set has it fatal disadvantage, that is, it does not have China and India's birthrate. Group H

Is Health Expenditure the only factor affecting Infant Mortality?

The region wise infant mortality rate and health expenditure is shown in the first graph (map). The interesting fact is that, although some regions have higher health expenditure ( as a % of GDP), their infant mortality is high implying there are other factors to be considered.

Planning to buy a Car ? Confused ? Read on! Author- Team K

Buying a car is the second most expensive purchase decision that consumers make often. According to the National Auto mobile Dealers Association, the average price of a new car sold in the United States is about $30,000. With the growing number of brands and options, the consumer can quickly get lost in a maze of choices. Wouldn't it make life easier for customers if we could come up with all the important factors a customer must look for while buying a car ? We as Future Data Analysts, who love cars, have tried to study the important parameters and tried to find key parameters which would help you decide to buy a good car.
Key Parameters include: Horse Power, Engine Size, Weight, Length, Width, Wheelbase, No. of Cylinders, City MPG, Dealer Cost etc.

1) One Important feature we look for in a car is: Average City Mileage
We grouped these by engine size (in litres):

The dashboard uses engine size with 2 categories: 1.4-2.4 litres and 2.4-3.4 litres to compare the city MPG of popular car brands.
In the first category : Engine size :1.4-2.4 litres-  Honda and Toyota have the best city mileage. In the second category the city MPG does not vary much among brands. So now you know which cars to choose.

2) Another Parameter we looked at was Average Dealer Cost of Cars vs Horsepower and Length.

The dashboard uses 4 categories of Horsepower as shown and the length of cars listed in bins on the x-axis to compare the average dealer price.
We found that Horsepower is the dominant factor in car pricing.
Thats all for now, We will keep you posted with more interesting findings on this dataset.

FIFA 2014 Visualization by Group D

All of our team members are soccer fans; so we decided to create some visualizations for soccer data. We found this dataset from the link:http://datahub.io/zh_CN/dataset/fifa-world-cup-2014-allplayers/resource/a7c22e7b-0f66-41b3-b705-f480ce2f07b5. This data set includes information of all players in 2014 Brazil World Cup.The first we visualization we created is a tree map that helps us see which soccer club are good at producing national-level players of which positions(MidFielder/Defender/Forward/Goal Keeper). The larger and darker a rectangle(representing the club) is, the more FIFA games its players have played in the past. For example, FC barcelona mid-fielders have participated in the most FIFA soccer games(520). We have also created a geographical heat map that helps us see number of international goals each country has scored in the past. The last plot of bubbles helps us see clubs of which nations have produced how many FIFA 2014 players and how many international goals in the past. The size of a bubble represents its number of FIFA players; the darkness of the bubble represents its number of internationtal goals. For example, Premier League(British Soccer League) had 119 players playing in Brazil World Cup representing different countries. Also Premier League has produced most FIFA goals in the past.

Top Fantasy Running Backs

Team B

Over the past few years fans are trying to be more involved in their favorite sports. This has raised demand in projecting scores or performances of individual players in fantasy football. Predicative analytics plays a major role in giving users the edge over one another. Running backs in most leagues are most valuable position to fantasy football participants.  How running back score points is based off of how many yards they have rushing and receiving, and how many touchdowns they score. Our dashboard is a recommendation on what running backs to pick for fantasy football. The bubble best depicts what players will be most effective. The players on the top right of the chart are the players that the user should pick first.  We have filtered the data on dashboard to only show running backs that have scored at least 3 touchdowns. We included this filter because touchdowns are worth the most points and if the players have 3 touchdowns they are likely to have a large amount of yards. The people who use our dashboard can filter by team the players are on if they are fans of a specific team. The legends help users of our dashboard quickly recognize which players are good. Overall this dashboard would give it a fantasy participant the edge in a fantasy football draft.

Which country just can't put their cellphone down?

In a study from a world bank dataset, we were able to compare mobile phone subscribers per country. The United States became third after a close race with India. The least amount of subscribers comes from American Samoa, with 10,634 subscribers and the greatest is in China, with 4,690,094,000. Could this be contributed to the immense population, or are they truly addicted to their technology?
